Chapter 27 Pairing Him up With Another Woman
Stella dropped her mirror when anxiety kicked in. Is Miles the man that Zane would like to introduce to Yulia? When the others were greeting Miles, she picked up the mirror, only to see from its reflection that Yulia was watching Miles closely, while Miles, on the other hand, just averted his gaze from her.
“Mr. Grant, I would like to apologize for my impudence from a few days ago. As a token of my apology, I would like to introduce you to a potential girlfriend. She’s my wife’s cousin. What do you think of her?” Zane was holding Stella’s shoulder all the while, as if trying to show off how intimate they were. “It was also Stella’s idea to introduce you to a girlfriend as she knows you don’t have one.”
With a humorless smile, Miles observed Zane before glancing at Stella, then he turned his attention to Yulia. They seemed to hit it off, talking about their work and personal preferences. Throughout their conversation, Miles was so absorbed in it that he didn’t seem to notice Zane nor Stella. The ability to stand out among the crowd seemed to come naturally for him. In contrast, Stella was on pins and needles, as she didn’t expect Zane to introduce Yulia to Miles. In fact, she had ruled him out altogether.
“Stella and I will be taking our leave, since you seem to be having a good time.” With that, Zane held Stella’s hand, ready to leave.
“Why the hurry? You should join the conversation.” Although Miles’ eyes were on Zane, Stella couldn’t help but feel he was saying that to her.
Since Miles wouldn’t let them leave, Zane didn’t force it. With a cup of tea in her hands, Stella sipped on it while leaning against the table. She was seated beside Miles, so she could catch glimpses of his hand gestures, which were open and steady. On the other hand, Yulia stared at Miles as if he were her one and only man. The meal seemed to have dragged on for a long while for Stella. When the conversation between them finally ended, they parted ways at the entrance of the restaurant.
“What do you think of my sister-in-law?” Zane asked with a smile.
Miles’ eyes had a glow to them under the neon lights, as if they were capable of seeing through everything in the world. While standing in front of him, Stella felt rather insignificant.
“She’s a great woman.” That was the only reply he offered. Yulia responded with a smile, but Miles didn’t even look at her, as his attention seemed to be on someone beside Zane.
On the next day, Stella was called into the president’s office as soon as she arrived at the company for work. It was her first time ever visiting it, so she was feeling uneasy. Unlike Ritz Design and Renovation, which was cramped and narrow, the president’s office in Miles Conglomerate almost took up an entire floor. Aside from a leather sofa and a mahogany cabinet, he had another lounge behind the office which was equipped with everything he needed.
Miles was penning something on the table when he made an offhand remark. “Aren’t you a bit too eager to pair me up with another woman, Mrs. Levitt?”
Hm? Stella’s face heated up due to embarrassment, all the while wondering if what he said was meant to declare that he was her man. However, she never even felt so for a second. In the end, he seemed to have said so on a whim, for he dismissed her soon after.
During the following days, Yulia and Stella seemed to have gotten closer than ever. Knowing that Stella was Miles’ employee, Yulia was constantly contacting Stella, as she wanted to get Miles’ contact. Judging from that, Stella figured that Yulia had taken a liking to Miles. On the other hand, though Miles came to the company fairly frequently, he wasn’t in every single day, so Stella hadn’t seen him for a few days.
It was almost winter when Stella’s coursemates from university decided to book a room at the well-known Founder’s House in Hollowcrest City for a gathering. Most of her coursemates studied in Hollowcrest University, so a lot of them ended up working in Hollowcrest City. That night, most of her coursemates managed to gather at the restaurant. A few of them who used to have a crush on Stella regretted not going after her when they saw her current dazzling appearance. Since they already failed the task once, they had already lost their chance.
All of them came to know that she married Zane Levitt, who was quite a prominent figure in Hollowcrest City. Therefore, all the girls envied Stella for her luck. One of them who happened to be quite open to sex joked with her by saying, “Stella, you and the young master of the Levitt Family are a heavenly match that looks great together. Seeing how pretty you are now, I bet you must’ve had a great sex life with Mr. Levitt. Come on, why don’t you tell us about the poses you adopted? We might as well learn from you!”
Goodness. What happened to these girls? They were so innocent back then that they would blush at the sight of a man, but how have they gotten so open about s*x now?
