Chapter 1119 Kidnapped
A man’s voice could be heard from the other side of the phone and he was the reporter whom Nicholas was searching for. Wanda was relieved upon hearing his voice and she was glad that he heeded her instruction to hide for the time being.
Not knowing what she had in mind, the reporter asked cautiously, “Miss Muller, what can I do for you?”
Wanda aired her thoughts by saying, “Nicholas’ attention is now on you, so hiding in this area wouldn’t do any good right now. I’ll suggest you hide somewhere else and return only when this incident has subsided.”
“Miss Muller, this is not what we agreed upon earlier. On top of that, what would happen to my family if I left?” He sounded reluctant.
“Things don’t always turn out as we have planned for. You wouldn’t want to be caught by Nicholas, would you?” Wanda tried to intimidate the reporter. “You should know how strong the influence of the Sawyer Group is in Southend. I’m sure that you could foresee the consequences if you were being caught without needing me to tell you.”
After hearing that, the reporter was silent.
“As for your family, I can send someone over to look after them. If you’re willing to do as told, I will pay you an additional 1 million on top of the payment amount that we have agreed on before this,” Wanda continued.
He was tempted by her offer since he would be dead meat if he was caught by Nicholas, so leaving would be his best option. Moreover, he could get an additional 1 million. With that money on hand, he could leave Southend with his family and live a comfortable life after things had quieted down.
Although the reporter didn’t say a word, Wanda knew that he was tempted by her offer and stopped persuading him. Before ending the call, she said, “Think about it. Leave or be jailed.”
After the call ended, the reporter had been following the online news closely. He found out that his previous company had not only severed ties with him, but they even revealed some of his information to the public to divert the pressure they received from the netizens and Sawyer Group.
That left him in a state of panic, so he agreed to Wanda’s offer without any hesitation and went straight to the train station that night after wearing a disguise. He had intended to leave right away, but a group of men came out of nowhere to approach him moments after he obtained the tickets.
“What are you trying to do? Let go of me!” The reporter was so startled that he struggled to break free but to no avail.
The passengers were dumbfounded by what they saw, and they just stared at the men in black shirts. The reporter, on the other hand, wanted to seek help from the onlookers when he wasn’t able to escape from the men’s grip. Before he could do so, his mouth was covered, and he passed out after inhaling a pungent odor.
After some time, the reporter finally regained consciousness, but he was feeling heavy-headed. The scene before he passed out repeated itself in his mind. When he finally realized that he had been kidnapped, he could no longer keep his calm. He looked around frantically and noticed that he was in a dark basement.
“Is anyone here?” he asked in a shaky voice.
The atmosphere was so eerily quiet that all he could hear was his breathing. Being overwhelmed by fear, he fumbled as he tried to find his way out but soon realized that his foot was being tied to a metal chain. He then tried to free himself, but it was a futile effort.
In the end, he was so exasperated that he slumped onto the ground and yelled, “I know that you are here. Let me go! You are breaking the law by doing this!”
“Let me go…” No matter how he yelled, it was met with silence.
It didn’t help that his silent surrounding was driving him crazy.
At that moment, he thought that Nicholas was the one who abducted him and started to beg for mercy. “President Sawyer, this is all my fault. Please let me out. I swear that I’ll tell you everything if you let me out.”
Even so, the reporter didn’t get an answer. Little did he know that his every single move had been recorded via surveillance and was being uploaded online.
