A Man Like None Other Chapter 781

Chapter 781 History Of The Medicine God Sect

Once inside, Jared realized that the mountain was much larger than he’d anticipated. Everywhere he looked, there were countless buildings that filled the hollow mountain. Mapleton appeared minuscule when compared to the Medicine God Sect.

Furthermore, Jared noticed many ordinary citizens strolling around. He even caught sight of a group of children playing together not far away. These individuals were neither martial artists nor alchemists.

When Axton noticed the puzzled look on Jared’s face, he quickly explained, “Jared, the Medicine God Sect has more than ten thousand members. Despite our numbers, not everyone here is well-versed in the art of alchemy or martial arts. Truthfully, we are more like a large village than a sect.”

After Axton briefly explained the Medicine God Sect’s history, Jared finally realized that this sect wasn’t as fearsome as everyone painted it out to be.

Instead, the Medicine God Sect resembled a haven for refugees who’d stumbled upon this valley. Hence, they set up a place here and lived the rest of their lives in peace.

Although this place was well-concealed, they didn’t cut off all contact with the outside world. Gradually, a few martial artists who were tired of living a frenetic life, and a few individuals passionate about cultivation, joined their ranks.

It didn’t take long before the existing members picked up martial arts and cultivation. Around this time, the arcane array was set up. Since then, it has stood the test of time and hid the Medicine God Sect for over a few hundred years.

A hundred years ago, an elderly man made his way into the mountain. He was an individual highly skilled in medicine. Not only did he cure most of them, he even used alchemy to improve their health. Most importantly, his teachings greatly increased their life expectancies.

Quickly, many others began to learn about medicine and alchemy from him. Under his tutelage, many famed doctors and alchemists followed in his footsteps. Hence, most members of the Medicine God Sect lived long lives.

After some time, the elderly man went into seclusion and vanished without a trace. Even his well-being remained an unsolved mystery. Consequently, this was how the Medicine God Sect earned its name.

After the disappearance of the elderly man, many members left the mountain to help others with their skills. In return for their expertise, they were rewarded with riches and resources. A few of them opted to live outside after they got a taste of what the outside world had to offer.

As tales of their healing spread, people named them the Medicine God Sect. Similarly, its members followed along and the name stuck around ever since.

“Mr. Chance, we have strict rules in place around here. Usually, we don’t allow outsiders in here without a valid reason. If the Medicine God Sect’s secret is exposed, many people might try to attack us. Their actions would harm the livelihoods of our members,” Donald explained.

Jared nodded. It is no secret that the Medicine god Sect has all sorts of miraculous medicine. Even so, these ordinary citizens will be the first to suffer if the outside world attempts to invade their haven. Their lives will be destroyed.

Faced with the idea of striking gold, many people would lose their rational senses. This was especially true for those so-called warriors, as their thirst for power was practically unquenchable.

Axton led Jared and the rest toward the heart of the mountain. There, a large hall carved out of iolite towered over the rest of the buildings. It was over twenty meters tall and spanned as far as the eye could see.

When they reached the entrance, Donald came to a halt. “Mr. Chance, please follow Mr. Knox in. Only elders are permitted to enter the Medicine God Hall, so I’ll wait outside.”

Jared nodded and followed Axton in. Inside the hall, heavy wafts of smoke lingered in the air. All around the hall, there were several burning incenses that filled the air with the earthy scent of herbs. After smelling the scent, Jared felt much more rejuvenated.

Upon closer inspection, Jared noticed a large cauldron in the middle of the hall. Occasionally, a few of the gathered men would toss herbs into it.
